Import & Export#
Importing Icons#
From Files#
Choose File → Import… (⌘⇧I) or drag files directly onto the icon grid.
Supported file types: SVG, PNG, GIF, PDF, ICNS, WebP, ICO, JPEG.
You can import multiple files at once. If a collection is currently selected in the sidebar, imported icons are added directly to it. Otherwise, they land in Unfiled.
From IconJar#
Drag an .iconjar bundle onto the grid, or choose File → Import… and select the bundle.
Icophony reads the IconJar package structure, imports all icons, and recreates the collection hierarchy from the bundle. Tags are preserved. Each IconJar set is imported as one or more collections in your library.
From Backup#
To restore an Icophony backup, open the .icophony file with Icophony (double-click in Finder, or drag onto the app icon).
Note: Restoring a backup replaces your entire current library. Make sure to back up first if you want to preserve your current state.
Exporting Icons#
Export to IconJar#
Choose File → Export → IconJar… (⌘⇧E).
Icophony packages your entire library — all groups, collections, and icons — into a standard .iconjar bundle compatible with other IconJar-aware apps. SVG overrides are baked in at export time.
Export Backup#
Choose File → Export → Backup….
Creates a compressed .icophony backup file containing your full library: every icon (with image data), every collection and group, all tags, notes, URLs, and license assignments. The file uses LZFSE compression for efficient storage.
Store backups wherever you keep important files — iCloud Drive, an external drive, or alongside your design project.
Dragging Icons Out#
Drag any icon thumbnail (or the large preview in the inspector) to any destination:
- Finder — creates a file at the drop location
- Xcode — adds to the asset catalog or project
- Design apps (Figma, Sketch, Affinity) — inserts as an image
SVG icons dragged out have any active SVG overrides baked into the file automatically.
